Night Kitchen Outstanding!

On the 2nd of February, at 8pm sharp, at the Acadia Cinema's Al Whittle Theatre, there will be another edition of Night Kitchen. It is named “Night Kitchen Outstanding” for two reasons: First, there'll be a host of outstanding performers on stage that night. Second, the Night Kitchen Spectacular last November was canceled, leaving the organizers with outstanding commitments. Some people still hold tickets from the canceled show, and some performers still have not performed at a Night Kitchen Event. Tickets from the canceled November event will of course be honored, and those particular performers will of course perform.
Two groups, who's Night Kitchen appearance was canceled last year, will appear on stage in this very exciting ground hog day of 2008. Ardyth and Jennifer, will visit us from Kentville and Halifax to play Harps and sing. These two woman met more than ten years ago at a Nova Scotia kitchen party and have been performing together ever since. They're multi-instrumentalists (harp, percussion, voice, whistles etc...) and play original songs for an ever growing community of fans all over the east coast. Their web site www.ardythandjennifer.com has lots of information about this duet.
Rise Up Shannon will be on stage. About them, somebody wrote: “Words and melodies almost forgotten become their very own invention. Songs which have waited for countless eons to be sung with the heart of the gifted are taking flight in their performances. Rejoicing is the sadness of ireland and the story of life.... ”. The band is comprised of Denise Aspinall, Aran Silmeryn and Mike McMahon. With wonderful vocal harmonies and skillfully employed acoustic instruments this trio has delighted listeners all over the valley.
This time, Night Kitchen will include two performances which are not primarily musical. In one segment, Abhaya Mixed Marshal Arts will demonstrate some of their skills. The group is brought to this event by Patrick Bazinet, our “Who's Who” columnist. The other non-necessarily-musical ensemble with be Angry Beavers Improv (www.angrybeavers.org), who perform every Friday night in the basement of the Acadia Student Union Building. This winter, on the only stop of the 2007/2008 Wolfville tour, they will entertain at Wolfville's Al Whittle Theatre.
John Kavanagh, musical partner of Jack McDonald and ukulele/gamba virtuoso, will perform. Delores Boudreau (www.deloresboudreau.com), a music therapy student at Acadia with 2 CD's to her credit will sing. George Symonds, who frequently delights crowds at the Farmers Market will be heard. Guitar guru Bernie Zinck, a household name all across the Valley, will perform. The notorious Thieves Of Dagdad and Ernie Robinson will be there. Amelia and the Wide Open Space, one of Wolfville's smallest ensemble's can be seen as well.
Tickets from the canceled November event will of course be honored. Tickets can be purchased in advance from Just Us on Main St. in Wolfville and EOS Fine Foods for just $8. They'll $10 at the door.
